Carol J. Blanchard - Costume Designer : Welcome to my online portfolio! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am a Chicago based costume designer with over 30 years of regional and academic experience in stage costume design and fabrication. My work spans a wide range: from rock musicals to opera, contemporary to classical, highly stylized to historical realism. I enjoy working closely with directors on conceptualized pieces such as an East-West fusion production of Othello with Japan’s Noh master Akira Matsui, Thomas Loughlin’s Macbeth based upon the fantasy worlds of illustrator Frank Frazetta, and a La Traviata updated with Las Vegas rock star haute couture. I equally enjoy the challenges of historical realism in “costume dramas” such as my designs for The Devil’s Disciple directed by the CBC’s Desmond Scott and an Edwardian production of Love’s Labours Lost for Canadian director Joseph Totaro, as well as collaborating with playwrights, such as Lennox Brown, Claudia Allen, and Claude Van Itallie on designs for new works. The images here are a sampling of my designs in production as well as my renderings. Enjoy! Carol J Blanchard
